About Makenna

Makenna Serene Morse (1997-2024), aka Ms. Morse, was an educator, a poet, and a book lover.

Makenna had a profound love of books since she was a baby and grew up with a passion for reading and writing. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSED in Secondary Education English from Central Michigan University in 2019.

Ms. Morse

Makenna was an inspirational sixth-grade English Language Arts teacher in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. She was a “Swiftie” in her self-proclaimed “Teaching Era.” Her classroom was a safe space for all who entered. As a teacher, Makenna wanted to make a difference in her students’ lives. She believed that a simple smile had the power to change the course of someone’s day: It might be the first positive interaction in their day.

Makenna was beautiful, both inside and out; a wonderful mother to her 3-year-old daughter, Sadie, whom she cherished. She was a best friend to her mom and older sister, the “cool sister” to her younger brother, the one to always make her dad laugh, and the best Aunt Kenna to her beloved nieces. Makenna was a light to everyone who knew her. She shined brighter and farther than anyone could’ve ever imagined.

On April 21, 2024, Makenna was killed in a tragic car accident. She was only 26-years-old. Sadie, the light of her life, was seriously injured, but miraculously survived. Makenna lived fearlessly. Each day a new adventure. She was destined for greater things. Makenna will be forever missed by everyone who knew her. Gone, but never ever forgotten. Makenna, we were enchanted to know you.
